Industrial
LNG Tank,
Chile
The safety of two 160,000 cubic meter capacity LNG storage tanks at the GNL Quintero Terminal was tested when they experienced the 2010 Chile magnitude 8.8 earthquake with an epicenter 421 kilometers away. Each tank rests on 260 Triple Pendulum isolators, which enabled the tanks to safely ride out the earthquake and remain operational post-earthquake.
Manzanillo LNG Tanks,
Mexico
The two 150,000 cubic meter LNG storage tanks are located in Colima, Mexico, in a highly seismic region close to an earthquake fault. The seismic design estimated 0.4g and 0.8g peak ground accelerations for the OBE and SSE, respectively. Each tank is protected by 340 Triple Pendulum isolators located on top of the concrete piles.
Sakhalin Offshore Platforms,
Russia
Two massive offshore platforms located in a severe seismic and arctic environment are protected from earthquake shaking by Friction Pendulum isolators. In each platform, four large isolators sit atop a four-legged concrete gravity structure and support an integrated topside steel deck. The offshore platforms are the centerpiece of a $US 20 billion investment in the development of the Piltun-Astokhskoye oil field and the Lunskoye gas field in the Sea of Okhotsk, Russia. Use of Friction Pendulum isolators saved an estimated $US 300 million in construction costs for the two platforms.
High Voltage Transformer,
Washington
Loss of use of high voltage transformers after an earthquake can impede earthquake recovery. EPS Triple Pendulum isolators can protect these essential pieces of equipment during an earthquake and help limit post-earthquake down-time.
